COPPER & GOLD are GREAT MATES !!!!.
YES, if a geology map indicates a location of old copper workings there is a VERY HIGH chance for GOLD!!!!.
It's not ALWAYS guaranteed, but where there is old Copper workings it is a GREAT place to go looking for GOLD !!!!
BIG HINT: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many of these deposits will be simply listed as a 'BASE METAL' deposit.
The 'surface expression' of copper is almost always the copper-carbonate minerals,... the two (2) most common are:
GREEN: MALACHITE
BLUE: AZURITE
These are not subtle looking minerals and are usually very distinctive in appearance. Some small tips are:
1) If the GREEN colour in a rock is 'within' another mineral it is usually NOT a copper oxide (MALACHITE). This is usually CLAY minerals (i.e. chlorite).
2) if BLUE & GREEN minerals are BOTH present in a rock, then it is almost always the presence of copper-carbonate minerals ,.... and a huge potential for GOLD NUGGETS !!!
